We have some big news to share with our Bike for Good family about the next chapter of our journey.
Following the news that our landlords have exercised the break clause in our lease to move forward with redevelopment plans, we will be vacating our beloved West Hub in Finnieston by 1 December 2026.
While this was unexpected, it has brought a moment of clarity and opportunity. To ensure our charity remains strong, resilient, and ready for the future, we have made the decision to bring all of our operations, skills, and passion together under one roof at our South Hub in Govanhill (Langside Lane).
This decision was not made lightly. We know that the spaces we occupy extend to the wider community. Sadly, consolidating our hubs means we will no longer be able to share the South Hub building with Rumpus Room. They have been incredibly valued neighbours and partners, and we are sad to see this shared chapter close.
Like so many grass-roots and community organisations across Glasgow, we are feeling the heavy pressure of a city-wide shortage of affordable, secure, and suitable community spaces.
Our West Hub has been so much more than just a building. For years, it has been a sanctuary for thousands of bikes, the backdrop to countless cups of tea and life-changing conversations, a place where vital new skills were learned, lifelong friendships were forged, and thousands of Glasgow residents took their very first pedals on a cycling journey.
Alberta Gutteridge, CEO of Bike for Good, said: ‘Although we are consolidating our operational base in the Southside, our heart remains deeply connected to the West End and Finnieston. We are absolutely committed to maintaining a presence there. We are already actively exploring new partnership opportunities and creative ways to deliver our services. We warmly welcome conversations with any local organisations, businesses, or community groups who share our vision of keeping cycling accessible, affordable, and joyful for everyone across the city.’
What’s next? Before we lock the doors in Finnieston later this year, we want to look back and celebrate. We will be hosting a big farewell celebration to say a massive thank you to every single volunteer, mechanic, learner, cyclist, and supporter who made the West Hub the magical place it became. We will share details on this very soon.
We want to build this next chapter with you. Bike for Good belongs to the people of Glasgow, and your voice matters immensely as we navigate this transition.
