Bike for Good today announces that its Founder and Chief Executive Officer, Gregory Kinsman Chauvet, has made the decision to step down from his role after leading the organisation since its founding in 2010. While he leaves his executive role, his impact on Bike for Good and the wider community will be long-lasting and his vibrant energy will be greatly missed.
What began as a small stall in Glasgow’s Barras Market, with a handful of donated bikes, a makeshift toolkit, and a dedicated group of volunteers, has grown into a thriving charity and social enterprise at the heart of the city’s active travel movement. Under Greg’s leadership, Bike for Good has refurbished tens of thousands of donated bicycles, making affordable, high-quality bikes accessible to communities across Glasgow. The organisation has also delivered tens of thousands of cycling lessons, empowering individuals with the skills and confidence to embrace cycling for transport and leisure.
Through periods of both growth and challenge, including fluctuations in the cycling industry and the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, Greg led with resilience, determination, and humour. He also played a key role in supporting Glasgow City Council’s Active Travel ambitions, while expanding Bike for Good’s services to include Fix Your Own Bike, bike maintenance and mechanics training programmes, and the introduction of Cytech training to Scotland.
Greg will be taking his energy and enthusiasm to a new exciting venture: a not for profit wine cooperative dedicated to systemic change within the viticulture business. By supporting small, independent winemakers, he aims to challenge traditional market barriers and ensure sustainable livelihoods for producers. Greg isn’t giving up bikes though as he plans to visit all partner wineries by bike – wherever they may be in the world!
Following a period as Interim CEO, Alberta Gutteridge has been appointed Chief Executive Officer on a permanent basis. Since joining the organisation in 2024 as Head of Operations, Alberta has demonstrated strong leadership and a deep commitment to Bike for Good’s mission.
Alberta said: “Bike for Good is an amazing organisation with a wonderful team of staff and volunteers with endless passion, and I am delighted to be part of its story as it navigates its next chapter.”
